Education Going Down Spiral.

So here I am a current freshman in college. Time flew by so quickly that it scared me yet excited me. Who knew that time could fly and I am no longer a child, and now growing into an adult. At first I did not know what I was getting myself into and was nervous that I might not be able to make it. But here I am, now a college student. The opportunities that were open to me made me feel overwhelmed and excited to go to college. Knowing that I was in control was totally new to me. I was so pumped for college.
Before the first semester started, I noticed something odd and confusing. Not with the school or people (even though the new student recreation center was being built) but with the tuition. My first semester at CSU Northridge was a tuition price of three thousand flat. I paid my dues and left it at that. A couple days logging into portal I freaked out because it said I still owed another 200 plus more dollars! I was outraged, I was confused. I thought to myself “How can I owe that much if I literally just paid a couple days ago?!” My parents and I were pretty upset, but had to deal with it because there wasn’t anything we could do about it.
Throughout my first semester there was a big ordeal about Occupy Wall Street, were citizens of the middle class would fight for our rights and benefits. But that sadly ended not because they gave up, but because the government would not budge. I noticed more and more that our economy was greatly affecting our education system.
Not until my second semester here at CSUN is where I was becoming a bit afraid, afraid of what was going to happen. First was that tuition skyrocketed from first semester to second semester: adding another 500 plus dollars. Second was our stupid 15 unit cap which limited us in what classes we needed to take. And lastly was the amount of people who tried crashing courses but could not be added into the class. Being a freshman has its perks. Because we are granted priority registration, something every student in any college wants. I was not really aware what was going on until I started noticing the teachers could not add because of certain reasons. The only way they can add was if they were a graduating senior or if their major required it. I felt bad for those who could not take the class, especially for those who really needed that class.
I learned that our college was going “downhill.” CSUN was or is going to be in a debt of 7 million dollars because of the over enrollment of students. How could we be in debt?! And your question might be, how will they solve this problem? KICK OUT 2,000 PLUS STUDENTS OUT OF CSUN! And my class is in deep shit. It is a very scary and real thing that might happen to all of us. Knowing that my future might go down the tubes is a frightening image. I’m aggravated with the stupid chancellor because instead of helping our schools, the future generation, receiving a well-deserved education, he is off buying a load of crap he does not need and gets a pay raise for not doing anything but ruin our lives.
All I can do now is pray to God and hope things will turn out for the better. Because honestly I would not what to do from there.
