Project Web Analysis

So I'm finally writing my last few posts here for this blog: Project Web. Project Web for me was an experience. Sure I blog everyday on my personal blog, but never for school. I would have never expected to do something like this. Project Web was something that was enjoyable and easy to keep up with (that of course you aren't lazy).
This whole assignment kept us out of boredom. Being more of a visual learner and a person who likes doing hands-on learning, this was something for me. Instead of listening to lectures and being bored out of my mind, Project Space allowed me and my other fellow classmates to interact with the web. Also, this assignment is something very modernized and very future oriented. And what I mean by that is that it is something us students can enjoy in the "now," it is something that can keep us motivated to do.
Today's society or generation, is all about the technology and the future, and this assignment is definitely one of them.

The Mismatch between Class and Status

This article is about the relationship about class and status. The paper shows comparing and contrasting between the two. It says how on one point they are two different things, then in another view they still come together. It also talks about the differences between rights a person has and the esteem they have upon themselves. People in the higher status usually have more right, does not necessarily mean more esteem to those who have a lower status.

History and Historical Effect in Dune

This article talks about the structure and institutions created in Dune. The paper also talks about how the story of Dune relates to history and how essential it was to creating the story. Herbert believes that history is a linear and progressive process. Imperium clearly show the evolution of history.

Social Connectedness, Discrimination, and Social Status as Mediators of AcculturationlEnculturation and Well-Being.

This article talks about a survey being taken including social connectedness in mainstream society, social connectedness in the ethnic community, perceived discrimination, and expected social statusas mediators. Results indicated that the effect of acculturation on SWB was mediated by social connectedness in mainstream and ethnic communities and expected social status, whereas the effect of enculturation on SWB was mediated by social connectedness in the ethnic community and expected social status.

To Sum Things Up

The book Dune was written by Frank Herbert and is still today one of great scientific novels written. Dune was written in the early 1960s, when drug experimentation was beginning to enter the mainstream society of America. The book explores the concept of drugs as a way of opening “perception.” Consuming mélange, which is highly addictive in large quantities, allows Paul to see through time and perceive the future. The drug Spice is found on the planet Arrakis. Without the existence of the drug Spice, there would be no sense of hierarchy. Obtaining the spice you have to have some type of power status. The higher status, the easier it is to obtain the spice. In today’s society you see how power comes to play. Having money determine your status in this world, the more money, the more money and power you obtain. The definition of power is: the ability to do something in a particular way. The importance of status is shown throughout the books. Power is key to the people living in the Dune universe; they always need to be on top. With spice it determines the hierarchy of the individual on these various planets.
Spice is known to be like the Truthsayer drug according to the Reverend Mother. People take the drug to advance their capabilities to see falsehood. Many had taken it, yet died trying. The drug had become the main priority of the planets and will do anything to get rid of anything in their way. The need for spice led the war between the Atreides and the Harkonnens. The books show how each act on their desire to succeed the drug. With the battle you see how power comes to play, and to whoever wins the battle their status can rise up. Not only is spice the prize but also their reputation of whoever can be the greater power.
When looking at the characters in Dune it is know that they are all tied to spice. If there was no spice there would be no motives for the Emperor, Paul and Leto and the Baron. But because of the high demand there could only be one who was to obtain all. To whoever was to gain that power sets the hierarchy and to those who are not necessarily in the battle stay up with the hierarchy. The battle between the Atreides and Harkonnes, the Harkonnes and the Fremen, the Fremen and the Sardaukar, the Emperor and Paul all lead up in a big or small degree is of spice.

Knowledge.

From my English class, I learned how to think critically even for the little things.

I Fail You Not.

Have you ever done something wrong just to make people feel uncomfortable? I feel as though we all have either intentionally or unintentionally. And sometimes they can be quite hilarious. So here is my "fail."

One of my friends was helping me out with something and of course the usual response for these kinds of actions you say "Thank you" or "Thanks" but I wanted to change things around. So instead of "Thanks" I decided to say "Spanks." This totally caught him off guard. His face a bit like " o.o " The look on his face and his tone of voice was pretty funny. He did not expect what was coming for him. In response he said "Spanks?" And all I replied with was "yuup, spanks." This isn't my first time doing this to someone, I've actually done it multiple of times. Some people don't seem to mind, but to some they're just like "wait what?"
I think sometimes its a good thing to break away from the norm and challenge it. No one ever said that the right way of showing gratitude toward someone was to say thank you, so I took that chance and made it my own.

So I had a lot of fun actually making the video because it was my first time really editing some footage, so I hope it doesn't suck too much. Back story is that I loooove doing my nails, especially when doing designs, I've been doing it for probably 3 years now and I cannot be stopped!
So here is my take on "Aztec Design Nails" I hope you enjoy!

Procrastination.

So I haven't been caught up to all my blog posts, even now I am not even caught up. It should be the easiest thing on my agenda, but for some reason it hasn't been completed. I believe the reason why in which I am slacking on it is because I'm lazy and being the procrastinator that I truly am. Making this blog posts are the easiest thing, and because of that it makes it my last priority. I am not saying this is not important, because it really is, its just because it's easy to do. But I promise I'll be catching up from now on. This semester has been such a tiring one, and the sad part is, its not even over yet! So sorry Sean, I shall not lack it any longer!

Education Going Down Spiral.

So here I am a current freshman in college. Time flew by so quickly that it scared me yet excited me. Who knew that time could fly and I am no longer a child, and now growing into an adult. At first I did not know what I was getting myself into and was nervous that I might not be able to make it. But here I am, now a college student. The opportunities that were open to me made me feel overwhelmed and excited to go to college. Knowing that I was in control was totally new to me. I was so pumped for college.
Before the first semester started, I noticed something odd and confusing. Not with the school or people (even though the new student recreation center was being built) but with the tuition. My first semester at CSU Northridge was a tuition price of three thousand flat. I paid my dues and left it at that. A couple days logging into portal I freaked out because it said I still owed another 200 plus more dollars! I was outraged, I was confused. I thought to myself “How can I owe that much if I literally just paid a couple days ago?!” My parents and I were pretty upset, but had to deal with it because there wasn’t anything we could do about it.
Throughout my first semester there was a big ordeal about Occupy Wall Street, were citizens of the middle class would fight for our rights and benefits. But that sadly ended not because they gave up, but because the government would not budge. I noticed more and more that our economy was greatly affecting our education system.
Not until my second semester here at CSUN is where I was becoming a bit afraid, afraid of what was going to happen. First was that tuition skyrocketed from first semester to second semester: adding another 500 plus dollars. Second was our stupid 15 unit cap which limited us in what classes we needed to take. And lastly was the amount of people who tried crashing courses but could not be added into the class. Being a freshman has its perks. Because we are granted priority registration, something every student in any college wants. I was not really aware what was going on until I started noticing the teachers could not add because of certain reasons. The only way they can add was if they were a graduating senior or if their major required it. I felt bad for those who could not take the class, especially for those who really needed that class.
I learned that our college was going “downhill.” CSUN was or is going to be in a debt of 7 million dollars because of the over enrollment of students. How could we be in debt?! And your question might be, how will they solve this problem? KICK OUT 2,000 PLUS STUDENTS OUT OF CSUN! And my class is in deep shit. It is a very scary and real thing that might happen to all of us. Knowing that my future might go down the tubes is a frightening image. I’m aggravated with the stupid chancellor because instead of helping our schools, the future generation, receiving a well-deserved education, he is off buying a load of crap he does not need and gets a pay raise for not doing anything but ruin our lives.
All I can do now is pray to God and hope things will turn out for the better. Because honestly I would not what to do from there.
