The Mismatch between Class and Status

This article is about the relationship about class and status. The paper shows comparing and contrasting between the two. It says how on one point they are two different things, then in another view they still come together. It also talks about the differences between rights a person has and the esteem they have upon themselves. People in the higher status usually have more right, does not necessarily mean more esteem to those who have a lower status.

History and Historical Effect in Dune

This article talks about the structure and institutions created in Dune. The paper also talks about how the story of Dune relates to history and how essential it was to creating the story. Herbert believes that history is a linear and progressive process. Imperium clearly show the evolution of history.

To Sum Things Up

The book Dune was written by Frank Herbert and is still today one of great scientific novels written. Dune was written in the early 1960s, when drug experimentation was beginning to enter the mainstream society of America. The book explores the concept of drugs as a way of opening “perception.” Consuming mélange, which is highly addictive in large quantities, allows Paul to see through time and perceive the future. The drug Spice is found on the planet Arrakis. Without the existence of the drug Spice, there would be no sense of hierarchy. Obtaining the spice you have to have some type of power status. The higher status, the easier it is to obtain the spice. In today’s society you see how power comes to play. Having money determine your status in this world, the more money, the more money and power you obtain. The definition of power is: the ability to do something in a particular way. The importance of status is shown throughout the books. Power is key to the people living in the Dune universe; they always need to be on top. With spice it determines the hierarchy of the individual on these various planets.
Spice is known to be like the Truthsayer drug according to the Reverend Mother. People take the drug to advance their capabilities to see falsehood. Many had taken it, yet died trying. The drug had become the main priority of the planets and will do anything to get rid of anything in their way. The need for spice led the war between the Atreides and the Harkonnens. The books show how each act on their desire to succeed the drug. With the battle you see how power comes to play, and to whoever wins the battle their status can rise up. Not only is spice the prize but also their reputation of whoever can be the greater power.
When looking at the characters in Dune it is know that they are all tied to spice. If there was no spice there would be no motives for the Emperor, Paul and Leto and the Baron. But because of the high demand there could only be one who was to obtain all. To whoever was to gain that power sets the hierarchy and to those who are not necessarily in the battle stay up with the hierarchy. The battle between the Atreides and Harkonnes, the Harkonnes and the Fremen, the Fremen and the Sardaukar, the Emperor and Paul all lead up in a big or small degree is of spice.

Memory Lane

This post is just for me. Time truly flies when you're not counting the days. This post is just a reminder on how much I miss high school and show how much I have amazing people in my life. These people and so much more in my life have proved to me that they are truly there for me through thick and thin.

Prom 2012

So this Saturday was my best friend's and a couple of close friend's prom. Sadly I wasn't able to go but that is alright. I did my best friend, Katherine's makeup and my other friend's nails. It turned out gorgeous! Seeing everyone at pre-prom made me so happy! Everyone look beautiful and handsome. And also seeing them made me miss high school even more. It just felt like I just had my prom. Time truly does pass us by and it's taking a toll on me. I do not want anything ending, but we need new things to begin. So here are a couple photos of my friend's prom. Katherine is the one in red and with short hair who I did her make up for.

Magazine Nails

Tutorial

  1. Apply a base coat (anything from clear to sheer)
  2. Apply a desired base color (anything that will be the solid color, for example my nude beige)
  3. Wait for it to completely dry
  4. Go through a magazine and fine a print (preferably with a white background) and cut it out into strips that can be placed over the nail
  5. Get rubbing alcohol and you can either put it in the cap or a small bowl ( I just did the cap) and have q-tips ready
  6. Place the magazine clipping over the nails and hold it into place, make sure the print you want is facing the nail
  7. Dip q-tips into the rubbing alcohol and dab it on the magazine clipping (don't get it to soaked)
  8. After making it "wet" press firmly against nail, and slowly lift off
  9. Apply a top coat to seal your design
  10. WALA, you now have magazine nails (:
-If you do not like how it turned out, simply take the RUBBING alcohol, not acetone, and rub it off. This will not mess up your nail polish

GOOD LUCK (:

Abominable #11

So here we have another bird strip. I was reading the little comment that the author wrote that he had to text his wife every time he did a bird strip because he didn't want her to worry because this was not a reflection of their marriage. I really do love these birds, and all the "random" parts of the comic. It gives us a break within the story, allowing us to soak everything in. I can't wait for the next part to this story to see  who the lady bird might be!
